Peru Receives Funding for Ball Field Lights at Sunset Park

The City of Peru was awarded $99,800 through the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency’s (IMEA) Electric Efficiency Program for installing money-saving, more efficient light at a ball field at Sunset Park. IMEA’s funding provided 75% of the total funding with the city labor costs accounting for the remainder of the project budget.

The new lighting is a Light-Structure System with Total Light Control purchased from Musco Sports Lighting, LLC. The system has guaranteed light levels with BallTracker technology - targeted light, optimizing visibility of the ball in play with no glare in the player’s typical line-of-sight. The system also features a control and monitoring system, providing remote on/off and dimming control, and performance monitoring with 24/7 customer support.

The City of Peru was eligible for the efficiency program as a municipal member of the IMEA, a wholesale supplier of electricity to 32 municipalities throughout Illinois. Eric Carls, former IMEA Board Member, and Kevin Minnick, the City’s new IMEA Board Member and Peru’s Electric Operations Manager, worked with IMEA staff to apply and secure the funding under the Agency’s Program.

Through its membership in IMEA, the City of Peru has been able to provide LED lighting upgrades to the local library, fire department, volunteer ambulance service, and a variety of area businesses over the past few years.
